Asha Krishna started learning Bharatanatyam, when she was only 4 years old, in 1982. Before she had completed her arangetram, she had already participated in several dance dramas of Nritya Geethanjali, at NCPA, Nehru Centre, Mulund Fine Arts and others.
Simultaneously, she started learning Carnatic music from Guru Kaveri, Chembur Fine Arts. She is a keen learner and has taken active part in school and college competitions, winning laurels for herself and credits to her gurus. In later years, she learnt Carnatic music, Nattuvangam and Tala Shastra, compering and the art of makeup from Guru Rajee.
In 1992, she performed her Arangetram, after which, she gave solo performances at Sharada Sangeeta Vidyalaya, NCPA, Nadalaya, Saraswati Vidyalaya and has also performed in Chennai, at Vani Mahal and the Music Academy. Asha is also a graded artist of Bombay Doordarshan.
Asha has always balanced her studies and her art with equal importance. Throughout, she has earned distinction in her academics and has always been keenly interested in Research. After completing her undergraduate programme in Pharmacy, she is now pursuing further studies in the US. She has completed her Masters at UT, Memphis and is now continuing her Phd at the University of Texas, Austin. Her other hobbies include reading and listening to music.
Asha has performed for various campus events. She is eager to teach Bharatanatyam and continues to pursue her dance and music, constantly increasing her repertoire, imbibing more knowledge from Guru Rajee, during her trips to India.
