My association with Rajeemami has been truly fulfilling. It all started off by learning Nattuvangam from her. I soon realized that this living legend has so much more to offer. My thirst for learning grew more and more. I gathered courage and requested her to teach me and my students, Seema and Lavanya, an original Tillana. She taught us Brindavana Saranga Tillana, one of her own compositions and what a joyous and thrilling experience it was ! For me, it was like coming in touch, all over again, with my Periamma, late Smt. Ranganayaki Ramani, my first guru.
I felt my students too should experience this pleasure, receive her blessings, learn from her. We went on to have a workshop on different kummi-kolattams. The girls had an awesomely inspiring association with her. Her affection, her sternness, her radiant face, her amusement seeing our mistakes, her enthusiasm to demonstrate steps even at this age, had engulfed us all.
Mami has been extremely generous and kind to me, like a mother to a child. Now in my prayers, I request the Lord to make me capable enough, to receive everything she offers to me as knowledge. I look forward to having a long, cherished relationship of Guru-shishya with her.
