Bhavam, Ragam and Talam, the three elementary components that make up Natyam are imbibed in and are readily apparent in Priya’s performances. Priya began learning Bharatanatyam at the age of 4, under the guidance of Guru Rajee. She has also learnt the art of Nattuvangam, Tala Shastra and Natya Shastra. Priya regards ‘Aunty’ as more than just her dance guru; she reveres Aunty as her mentor in life.
After completing her Arangetram in 1991, Priya participated in various solo and group performances, such as the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Nritya Geethanjali and Mahakavi Bharati. Between 1991 and 1995, while at Indore, Priya performed at various functions and institutions. Back in Mumbai, in 1996, she continued to participate and won awards at various intercollegiate festivals such as Malhaar, Udaan, Kaleidoscope, Youth Festivals and Trios. In January 2001, she performed at Kali Bari, Mylapore Fine Arts and Vani Mahal in Chennai.
Priya has also learnt Kathak and classical Carnatic music. She completed her Bachelors in Commerce from Podar College, Mumbai and subsequently went on to attain her MBA from the SP Jain Institute of Management & Research. She currently resides in Dallas, Texas with her husband, Sudhir Rajagopal.
